Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — The Ethiopian national football team is gearing up for an exciting friendly match against DC United on August 2. The team has added five new players to its squad.
As the team continues its training sessions, several players have been unable to secure travel visas to the United States, prompting the call-up of fresh talent. Notable absentees include Benyam Genetu, Benyam Desta, and Abdulkerim Worku, among others, who were unable to obtain U.S. visas. Additionally, Megnot Debebe and Chernet Gugsa were excluded due to expired visas.
In response, the coaching staff has added Kenean Markneh, Anteneh Tefera, Amanuel Erbo, Suleyman Hamid, and Shahid Mustefa to the squad. With these additions, the Ethiopian national team now boasts a total of 20 players as they prepare for their upcoming match.
Current training sessions include ongoing participation from players such as Abubeker Nura, Firew Getahun, and Ahmed Rashid, ensuring a robust preparation phase. The team will continue training in Addis Ababa until Tuesday, July 29, before departing for the U.S.
