Sidama Bunna Faces Setback in CAS appeal

Sidama Bunna, one of four clubs recently penalized by the Ethiopian Football Federation for violating new financial regulations, has encountered a significant hurdle in its CAS appeal.

The club initially celebrated a thrilling 2-1 victory over Wolaitta Dicha in the Ethiopian Cup final, securing what they believed to be the championship trophy. However, this triumph was swiftly overshadowed when the Federation declared that Sidama had fielded ineligible players, leading to the match result being overturned.

In response, Sidama Bunna escalated the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) and has been awaiting a ruling. Recently, CAS issued a verdict rejecting Sidama’s request for a stay on the Federation’s decision.

A stay is a legal mechanism that allows for the temporary suspension of a decision during an appeal process. Had Sidama’s application been granted, it would have enabled the club to compete in the CAF Confederations Cup qualifiers while the case was under review, simultaneously preventing Wolaitta Dicha from participating.

As Sidama Bunna navigates this complex legal landscape, the club and its supporters remain hopeful for a favorable outcome in the ongoing proceedings.
