Abubeker Nassir has officially joined Mechal Sports Club as he put pen to paper on a two-year contract. This deal sees him return to the Ethiopian Premier League after leaving for Mamelodi Sundowns in South Africa back in 2022.
Abubeker’s time in South Africa, where he also played at SuperSport United on loan, was plagued by injury. This prevented the highly talented striker from showcasing his best qualities that saw him break the record of high scorer in a single Ethiopian Premier League season with 29 goals during the 2020/21 season.
The 26-year-old now reunites with his former national team coach, Webetu Abate, who has joined Mechal this summer. Abubeker will be eyeing a return to his scintillating form and to once again make an impact at the national team level.
