Bahir Dar Stadium has been granted a temporary approval from CAF to host the AFCON Qualifiers in September. 

Ethiopia has an away game against Sudan and a home tie against Senegal scheduled for September as the Waliyas look to qualify for AFCON 2027, set to be hosted in Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda. 

In a post following the announcement Ethiopia Football Federation’s General Secretary Bahiru Tilahun wrote in a social media post that this was a proud moment for Ethiopian football. 

“We sincerely appreciate CAF for granting Bahir Dar Stadium temporary CAT 3 approval, allowing our National Team to play its home group-stage qualifiers in Ethiopia after five years. Thank you to everyone who made this possible,” he stated. 

This milestone proves a crucial one for the national team, which was forced to play home games in other countries. Beyond the home advantage, this new development is expected to save the federation millions in expenses.
