The Ethiopian Athletics Federation (EAF) has unveiled a revised selection strategy for its 10,000m squad ahead of the 2025 World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. The Federation will abandon its traditional qualifying race, favoring a performance-based system, citing logistical challenges.
The EAF confirmed it will not organize a dedicated trial event due to scheduling conflicts with WA’s global calendar. Athletes’ results in WA-sanctioned 10,000m races between February 25, 2024, and July 20, 2025, will determine selection. Each athlete may submit only one eligible race result during this period. The fastest times across genders will secure spots on Team Ethiopia.
The 2025 World Championships will take place in Tokyo from September 13–21, marking the 20th edition of the event.
