Ethiopia looking for first win in World Cup Qualifier

Ethiopia will face Guinea Bissau on the third match day of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier game. The match kicks off at 7 PM local time on Thursday at Estadio Nacional 24 de Setembro.

Ethiopia has gathered only 1 point from the opening two games. The Waliayas drew 0-0 against Siera Leone while losing 3-0 to Burkina Faso, both games taking place in Morocco. Gebremedin Haile’s side played two friendly games against Lesotho in the March international break at Addis Ababa stadium. The team lost the first game 2-1 while winning by the same scoreline in the second match.

Before the game head coach Gebremedin stated how important the friendly games were in assessing the quality of the players, he also said defenders Yared Bayeh and Henok Adugna would both be out of the running in both games.

Guinea Bissau is led by former Fulham first-team coach Luis Boa Morte. The game with Ethiopia will be the Portugese’s first game. Guinea Bissau has managed to collect four points from the first two games.

Ethiopia’s last away win came in September 2022. The team is currently on a 4 game losing streak away from home.
