Ethiopia Nigid Bank crowned champions

In their first season back in the Premier League Ethiopia Nigid Bank have managed to win the title.

The 2023/24 Ethiopian Premier League saw the title race go to the final match day. After previous dramatic endings in the league this contest between Ethiopia Nigid Bank and Mechal was highly anticipated.

Under the tutelage of young coach Betselot Leulseged Ethiopia Nigid Bank surprised spectators with their dynamic football. Backed by the largest bank in Ethiopia the club didn’t shy away from gathering experienced players to bolster its squad.

As the side faced Ethiopia Medin on the final match day there was amazing support and vibrant atmosphere at Hawassa University stadium.

Ethiopia Nigid Bank started the game strongly and managed to take the lead through Suleiman Hamid early on. After that the stadium went into frenzy when striker Addis Gidey’s bullet strike hit the back of the net for the second goal.

The only notable attempt in the second half came from Basiru Umer but it sailed over the bar.

Minyelu Wondimu’s sole strike gave Mechal a 1-0 win against Diredawa Ketema but that wasn’t enough to grab the title. The army side finished a point behind the champions.

In the post match interview Betselot stated that he was nervous about the game but is was sure that his side would ultimately win the trophy.
