Messages Pour In for Beamlak Tessema Following His Retirement

Renowned Ethiopian referee Bamlak Tessema has officially announced his retirement from refereeing after a distinguished career.

In a formal letter addressed to FIFA, Bamlak described his journey as both an honor and a privilege, expressing his continued commitment to supporting the growth of refereeing in Ethiopia.

The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) praised Bamlak’s legacy, with President Isayas Jira—also a member of the CAF Executive Committee—hailing him as “an icon and a legend.”

In an official statement, the EFF extended its gratitude to Tessema for his “exceptional service “ and “unforgettable contributions” to Ethiopian and African football.

Adding to the tributes, EFF CEO Bahiru Tilahun took to X (formerly Twitter) to honor the retiring referee, stating:

“Your contributions have made Ethiopia proud. Your name will forever be etched in the history of African football. Happy retirement!”

As messages of appreciation continue to pour in, Tessema leaves behind a legacy that has inspired many across the continent.
