Renowned Ethiopian referee Bamlak Tessema has officially announced his retirement from refereeing after a distinguished career.
In a formal letter addressed to FIFA, Bamlak described his journey as both an honor and a privilege, expressing his continued commitment to supporting the growth of refereeing in Ethiopia.
The Ethiopian Football Federation (EFF) praised Bamlak’s legacy, with President Isayas Jira—also a member of the CAF Executive Committee—hailing him as “an icon and a legend.”
In an official statement, the EFF extended its gratitude to Tessema for his “exceptional service “ and “unforgettable contributions” to Ethiopian and African football.
Adding to the tributes, EFF CEO Bahiru Tilahun took to X (formerly Twitter) to honor the retiring referee, stating:
“Your contributions have made Ethiopia proud. Your name will forever be etched in the history of African football. Happy retirement!”
