Ethiopia’s Track Stars Gear Up for World Athletics Championship in Tokyo

Addis Ababa, Ethiopia — The Ethiopian Athletics Federation has officially announced the roster of athletes set to represent the nation at the highly anticipated World Athletics Championship in Tokyo. 

In the men’s division, Yohannes Tefera and General Birhanu were selected for the 800 meters. They will be joined by a formidable trio in the 1500 meters: Melese Nibret, Ermias Girma, and Wogene Addis.

The 5000 meters will see Biniam Mehari, Kuma Girma, and Hagos Gebrehiwot take to the track, while the 10,000 meters features a powerhouse lineup, including Yomif Kegelcha, Berihu Aregawi, and Solomon Barega. Rounding out the men’s events, Samuel Firew, Getnet Wale, and Lamecha Girma will compete in the 3000 meters, and marathon runners Deresa Geleta, Tadesse Takele, and Tesfaye Diriba are ready to tackle the grueling 42-kilometer challenge.

On the women’s side, Gudaf Tsegay stands out as she prepares to compete in both the 5000 and 10,000 meters. She will be joined by an impressive group of athletes, including Tsige Duguma, Nigist Getachew, and Worknesh Mesele in the 800 meters, and Diribe Wolteji, Birke Hayelom, and Saron Berihe in the 1500 meters.

Frewoini Hailu and Chaltu Dida will accompany Gudaf in the 5000 meters, while Medina Isa, Fotun Tesfay, and Tsige Gebreselma are expected to run alongside her in the 10,000 meters. In the 3000-meter steeplechase, fans can look forward to performances from Simbo Alemayehu, Lomi Muleta, and Alemnat Wale. The marathon lineup includes Amare Beriso, Tigist Assefa, Sutume Assefa, and Yealemzerf Yehualaw, all ready to chase glory.

Additionally, Sintayehu Masre will represent Ethiopia in the race walking event, adding to the nation’s diverse athletic presence.
